New Jersey based Nestor Rico

Image
Here's a snippet of what Nestor Rico  shares about his life.  Rico is batch '70  and belongs to sec 3 group. The secs are mentioned only for proper attribution, not for anything else. Remember our goal is really to find as many batchmates as we can. My take - it is never late to re-connect if not before,  why not today. Agree, classmates? Bow he he..  So here goes the first email message he sent me: Vicky  Morelos sent him my email ad,  recently spoke with Ernie de Guzman and Lex Parayno. Rico is currently living with a friend whom he is taking care of as a home health aide. Rico is really based in  New Jersey  but  left his home for the time being to care for his  friend. For now he resides in Redwood City, California. He gave his full address and contact phone but did not disclose it here for obvious reasons. Nestor is so enthusiastic about joining a reunion, I must guess, specifically those in California. On 4/13/2010 he sent another email from which I cull the snipp

You don't look different but you have changed?

I will never forget Jing Valdelleon. My high school memories will not be complete without him. It was Jing's family owned bungalow that we used to party at  guess what time? Would you believe,  noontime onwards.. Reminiscing this now makes me a smile, effervescently if I may, but sheepishly (oxymoron ata yun) because partying at noon is sooooo juvenile.. Ever the kind person that he is, Jing risked his "life" for us all noon party goers. Because,  I am not sure if his parents knew we were crashing in their house haha Back to Jing,  here's what he shared with me and re-sharing here: He has two children, a girl and a boy; the girl now 24, graduated from De La salle and is currently employed at Unilab. The boy now 22, is still studying at UPOU. He says I don't know his wife so there.. He and family remains based in Quezon City. Meanwhile, their  home in Kamias is still there. Jing is in the home build and sell business. They buy pieces of real estate

Image
Another photo shared by Vicky Morelos from our school paper, The Apprentice showing the Senior Council Officers: Seated L to R: Eva Orlino; Dory Frias; Mrs. Anastacia (wow legs) Manalo; Edita Sanchez; Lorna Callanta Standing L to R: Reuel Aguila; Victor Abat; Ramon Punzalan. Mon Punzalan graduated from the Philippine Military Academy and now an officer in the Philippine Navy (I guess due for retirement). And so is Vic Abat. Per Sue Canonizado, Vicsie as he is fondly called was a military attache way back, based in Melbourne. Sue, please correct me if my info is wrong.

RMCHS Student Council Officers 1970

Image
Here are two photos taken from the Apprentice, our school paper.  Remember, we were always winning awards? Because, we had good writers at the helm... I wonder, what it's like now.  Bringing home the bacon, so to speak, are they still? The photo below was grabbed from an old "The Apprentice" showing the Student Council Officers elected for 1969-1970. (I assume). Sorry guys, I could not show it clearer (bigger)  kasi mapuputol sya pag larger than this pa.  Maybe you can try clicking the photo; might show a larger sized picture. Seated L to R: Teresita Tolentino - Auditor; Victoria Morelos - Treasurer; Ms. Socorro de los Santos - Adviser; Reuel Aguila - President; Adoracion Frias - Secretary; Joy Rosary Castro - Asst Secretary Standing L to R: Roderick Tan - Board Member; Ramon Punzalan -Vice-President;  Wilma Gisala - Board Member; Josefina Sy - Board Member; Edita Sanchez - Board Member; Julieta Cagalpin - Asst Treasurer; Wenifredo Militar - PRO; Edgar Militar - B

A Reunion, a get- together? Ano at saan ba ito?

Image
First Row, L to R: I know the guy, but not his name, Hernani Cualing, Benigno Villanueva, Lorna Callanta, Salome Senga Second Row, L to R: Lucila Macapagal?, Loida Bernardo, Susan Canonizado, Bessie Baldovino, Divinia Llamas, (and at the back, Jimmy Juco) Last Row, L to R: Eduardo Cristobal (deceased), Reuel  Aguila, Babes(GF of Reuel, now wife), Chuchi Estanislao, Cresencia Cachero, Still can't figure out who she is, Malou Domingo (maybe), Isidra Rasalan,  Hilda Trinidad, Mr. Marzo, and at the back, Victor(Jing) Valdelleon. Perhaps taken in late 1977 or 1978. It was supposed to be a reunion of classmates from sections one and two, held at Lorna Callanta's house. If this is Lorna's house at 12th Avenue in Murphy, this must be the one that was burned sometime in the 80's which took the life of Lorna's son, a new Eng grad from UP Diliman (sorry guys, nalungkot tuloy kayo). I was in touch with Lorna in the late 90's. Nag bi- business-business kami. I still see

Doc Hernani's Favorite Poems

I am not sure  if this is in fact, Doc Hernani's favorite poems.  So I am taking a wild guess by saying so. Ars Poetica  or The Art of Poetry in Latin,   is a lyrical poem. It describes  the qualities a poem should possess  if it is to stand as a work of art. Archibald MacLeish wrote it in 1925 and was published in 1926.       Ars Poetica A poem should be palpable and mute As a globed fruit, Dumb As old medallions to the thumb, Silent as the sleeve-worn stone Of casement ledges where the moss has grown— A poem should be wordless As the flight of birds.                  * A poem should be motionless in time As the moon climbs, Leaving, as the moon releases Twig by twig the night-entangled trees, Leaving, as the moon behind the winter leaves, Memory by memory the mind— A poem should be motionless in time As the moon climbs.                   * A poem should be equal to: Not true. For all the history of grief An empty doorway and a maple

Could it be about more than Earth Hour, this poem by University of the Philippines Professor Reuel Aguila?
