BATCH ’70  RISING: on its 40th Year Anniversary !
By: Lorna P. Callanta

This year is Batch ‘70’s 40th year anniversary.  Mabuhay batchmates!

Had it  not for our Ramon Magsaysay (Cubao) High School Alumni Association (RMCHAAI) Inc., we would not have realized it, especially when I came in to the RMCHSAAI Board during last year’s election.   Unlike other senior batches, we are still in our formative stage, but for sure,we are  rising  in progress of fulfilling our batch organization goals.

I remember very well, we were only two sometimes three the most from our batch who regularly attended the annual RMCHSAAI grand alumni homecoming since it started in l999.  Admittedly, I had not attempted communicating with my highs chool schoolmates, more so when I heard that most of them settled in the United States and other countries. But in last year’s RMCHAAI grand alumni homecoming, about eight of us made it: Remedios Gabriel, Lorie Lunas, Veronica Berona, Gudelia Sabasa, Cora Palomar, Dorri Santos and Linda Ruiz. It was during this occasion that we agreed to see each other again after the Yuletide season.

Thus, came January 09, 2010, as agreed, we all met at  Alimall Foodcourt where we had about five hours of fellowship.  We were eager as beavers to find out what happened to this and that classmate. Is she married? How many kids do they have? Where do they stay now?  Can we possibly visit them one of these days?  Not finding answers to most of our queries, we decided to search and invite our schoolmates to join us  and finally organize  for a Batch Reunion.

Everyone of us then thought of posting notices to our own barangay office, doing radio announcements and other possible means to reach out and connect with our other batchmates. We also gave our individual voluntary contributions to our initial fund to enable us to move on. Though we were just a small group, we meet then at least once a month to keep the torch burning.  I presided these meetings temporarily since we did not have yet our formal organization.

Come September and October 2010 meetings, we begin to grow in numbers with the presence of Linda Avenido, Cecil Cabuhat, Jing Valdellon, Chuchi Estanislao, Malou Domingo, Charlie Jayco, Salome Senga, Gregorio Dominguez, Manuel, Palafox Jr., Reynaldo Bugarin, Ada Tolentino, Vilma Gabriel, Benjamin Paulo, Laura Castanares, Virgilio Laping, and Victor Abat.

And the most exciting part is that Malou Domingo, because of her untiring efforts, was able to connect us with other batchmates here and with our U.S. based batchmates like Ret.Col. Ernie de Guzman, Felix Parayno, Victoria Morelos, Johnson Villar, Isidro Talusan, Nestor Rico, Virgie Guevara, Lorna Urgel, Jay Espina, Aida Tolentino, Reuel Aguila, and many others who are looking forward in joining us in our big event the “BATCH ’70 REUNION-PILIPINAS” in 2012, and also helping us to make this event possible.

Our RMCHS Batch’70 Blog was created and everyone of us were so happy contributing to it. We envision in the following years to come, to be of help to our Alma Mater in her noble pursuit of providing quality education because we believe that our high school education at RMCHS contributed much in molding us to be better persons.

Now, we have already our formal organization, the Batch ’70 Board of Directors, under the leadership of our energetic  Victor B. Abat. Our newly-organized batch, as one of the major batch honorees this coming December 04,2010 RMCHS Grand Alumni Homecoming, is proud of having contributed to the RMCHSAAI, our humble share to make this grand alumni homecoming a success.

Iba talaga nagagawa kapag sama-sama!  There’s a lot more to expect from Batch’70 as there are many more years to look forward to!
