Batch'70: A Recollection

The Batch of 1970

It was a troubled period in an era of transformation.

Seniors of RMCHS 1970 were moving into a situation where decisions affecting their future were being made by leaders they had not fully known, whose orientations they have not fully grasped, and whose intentions they were not fully aware of. At an age just above childhood, these seniors were compelled to become adults by the conditions they were faced with; and the choices they made in their sincere desire for change brought them in different directions.

Forty years hence, they congregate to celebrate their youth – the one element in their lives that was abruptly ended by the turbulent decade that followed the end of their High School days. Having lived with their choices and their respective paths towards the change they sought to contribute, they now seek fellowship and acceptance of one another. For despite their different and/or opposite routes, they know that each of them remains connected to an endearing part of each other’s lives.

From all regions of the country, to points in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Europe; the desire to re-connect and re-establish ties is rising at fever pitch - to touch base with friends long since remembered and long since missed. When the call to reunite was posted on a website and social network, the overwhelming response was expressed with unmistakable euphoria that stirred the memories with images of times long gone, but moments embedded in their spirit.

The batch of 1970 will gather, not to impress others with their accomplishments, not to flaunt their successes, not to belittle the humble deeds of those who chose other directions in their lives; but to reflect upon the intangible values accumulated in the process. Values that have given meaning to their lives in terms of making life richer and better for others.

The batch has a Palanca Hall of Fame member for Literature, an accomplished and Multi-awarded Hematopathologist based in the USA, several Medical Practitioners in various fields of Medicine,  Health Professionals mostly based in the United States, Distinguished Military Officers, a Community Development Specialist, Corporate Executives, Information Technology Professionals, Business Entrepreneurs,  and a slew of various other professions.

The Seniors of 1970 will come together to rekindle the fondest memories of their abbreviated youth, and to bask in the company of a segment of their past for which friendships and relationships based on pure intent and innocence were the foundations that shaped their humanity and love of country.

The challenge remains, the tasks  abound, the change continues; and the Batch of 1970 will stand strong – individually or collectively – to see it through.
